2024 at Wagmo

2024 was a pivotal year for Wagmo. Our goal was clear: to help forward-thinking employers empower their people with pet wellness benefits that support healthier pets and happier teams. We doubled down on improving the customer experience, building strategic partnerships, and investing in the right team.

Key Highlights

Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved in the 366 days of 2024:

  • 🌎 Now reaching over 1 million employees eligible for Wagmo benefits through employer partners
  • 🎯 Achieved record enrollment rates, with some employers hitting 25%—well above industry benchmarks for voluntary benefits
  • Earned an 85 NPS from pet parents, reflecting the high standards we have behind our service
  • 🔁 Maintained a nearly 100% renewal rate, demonstrating ongoing client satisfaction and trust in our solution
  • 🤝 More than doubled the amount of employers offering Wagmo, including Fortune 500 companies and major organizations in the public sector
  • 🏆 Awarded the 2024 Benefits Trailblazer Award for Best Lifestyle Solution, recognizing Wagmo’s innovation in employee benefits
  • 🦾 >70% of claims are now processed without manual data entry, driven by AI automation, enabling fast, seamless reimbursements for employees
  • 📱 Enhanced our value-added offerings, like VETalk and the Wagmo Perks program, helping pet parents stay engaged with an average of 70 app interactions per user each year.

These numbers reflect more than growth—they reflect trust from our clients and engagement from employees. Employers are seeing stronger engagement from their teams, and pet parents are finding the support they need to care for their pets with confidence.

What We’ve Heard from Working Pet Parents–The Challenges Behind Pet Care

In 2024, we conducted a survey of more than 1,000 working pet parents, confirming that balancing work and pet care is a significant challenge for employees:

  • 75% of working pet parents have missed at least one day of work due to pet care needs, with 26% missing six or more days.
  • 65% report being distracted at work when their pet is unwell, with 38% saying they’re extremely distracted.
  • Pet parents with both pet insurance and pet wellness are less distracted (26% of respondents) than those with only pet insurance (66%).

These findings underscore how providing comprehensive pet care benefits, including wellness plans, can reduce workplace distractions and improve productivity. Pet-forward employers win the trust and loyalty of their people.

In the words of one of our Wagmo members, “My pets are my family. To know that they are valued by [my employer] makes me feel as if they care about my whole family, not just me and the human family members."

What We’ve Heard from Employers–The Rising Demand for Pet Benefits

What’s in it for employers? To find out, we asked them directly. As one Total Rewards Manager at a hospitality company shared, “People are so much more excited to talk about this benefit over their own health insurance! This has been a great partnership with your team.”

That sentiment isn’t unique. A senior benefits manager at a biotech company, told us, “When we rolled out Wagmo to our team it was better than sliced bread. They were more excited about Wagmo than our other benefits!”

Another partner shared the results of their internal employee survey, shedding light on how pet wellness benefits drive engagement, productivity, and loyalty in the workplace. They found:

  • 94% of members would be disappointed if their employer no longer offered Wagmo
  • 87% feel that having Wagmo has positively impacted their loyalty to their employer
  • 81% are likely to recommend their employer to others based on the availability of Wagmo’s pet perk
  • 80% say having a pet wellness perk helps boost their productivity
  • 72% of members are likely to renew their total benefits package solely based on the availability of Wagmo

Employers are recognizing that supporting pet parents isn’t just good for employees—it’s good for business.

Most Importantly, Our Team

Scaling a first-of-its-kind product requires the right leadership and infrastructure. In 2024, we focused on building a team that can take Wagmo to the next level.

We welcomed key leaders, including:

  • Jodi Gruber, VP of Sales – building meaningful partnerships to expand employee access
  • Dean McRobie, VP of Engineering – improving our tech foundation to scale with us and leading product innovation
  • Celeste Everett Castaneda, VP of Finance – ensuring that we’re growing sustainably while maximizing impact

We also added over 20 new hires across sales, tech, finance, marketing, customer operations, and customer success. Our headcount growth has been purposeful—bringing in people who are deeply aligned with our mission and equipped to execute. And in an industry still largely male-founded and operated, we remain proudly female-founded and operated, with more than 70% of our team identifying as female.

Fun fact: Collectively, our team now has over 50 pets!

What’s Next for 2025: Building on the Momentum

2024 validated that pet wellness benefits are here to stay and that employers are eager to offer more holistic support for their people. As we look to 2025, we’ll build on this momentum with a focus on scaling our reach, deepening our impact, and continuing to innovate.

We know that responsible pet parenting doesn’t happen by accident. It requires tools, resources, and support that are accessible, affordable, and easy to use. That’s what Wagmo delivers—and we’re committed to continuing to lead the way.

Last year, Mary, one of our members shared, “Wagmo is everything they claim to be and more from reasonable policy costs to prompt claim processing and outstanding customer service. I will definitely renew at the end of this term.”

To Mary and the thousands of other pet parents we served in 2024, we’re excited to welcome you back.

Message from Wagmo’s CEO

“When we made the decision to shift Wagmo’s focus to the employer market, we knew we were building something that had the potential to change how companies support their people.

2024 was all about bringing that vision to life.

We’ve built a strong foundation, and I’m incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished. But we’re just getting started.

As we head into 2025, I’m more excited than ever about the opportunity ahead. This isn’t just about offering a new benefit—it’s about redefining what it means to care for employees holistically.

Thank you to our team, our clients, and our partners for making this year possible. Let’s keep building–and empowering and inspiring responsible pet parenting!”
