2021 has been a banner year of growth for us here at Wagmo. We’ve onboarded thousands of new pet parents over the past eight months as the pandemic drove record-high levels of pet adoption, on the heels of the U.S. pet industry reached $99 billion in 2020. And in July, we secured a $12.5M Series A funding round, allowing us to give pet parents greater access to quality, affordable wellness and healthcare for their pets when they need it.
Behind all of these milestones, however, are the Wagmo employees whose work is setting the foundation for our growth and shaping the pet wellness category.
On this #TeamTuesday, we’re excited to highlight several new team members that we welcomed to the Wagmo family this year, all of whom are making it possible for us to deliver the most comprehensive pet wellness care and coverage available to pet parents today.
Making a return to the pet care space is Justin Dopp, our new Vice President of Finance. Justin brings over a decade of finance leadership prowess to his new role, where he’ll be instrumental in guiding Wagmo as we look to disrupt the pet insurance and wellness space. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Finance, Accounting and Customer Success at Plum, where he helped establish the internal finance and accounting functions while also revamping the customer success team. Prior to that, he served as Senior Director of Finance and Treasurer at Chewy, helping lead the pet supply organization through the transition from growth company to its acquisition by PetSmart and subsequent IPO.
Revolutionizing pet insurance also includes making coverage as accessible as possible. Kevin Cruz has taken on the role of Vice President of Partnerships and Sales, spearheading Wagmo’s budding B2B strategy and expanding the company’s incredible offerings through partnership channels like the employee benefits program. He joins us from One Medical, where he led strategic sales along the west coast, and works from beautiful San Francisco, CA.
Meanwhile, our pack of insurance enthusiasts has added another to their count with Corey Johnson as our new Vice President of Business Operations. Corey is now leading our business in creating an even more phenomenal pet parenting experience. We couldn’t be more excited to have a seasoned insurance industry expert like Corey, who comes to Wagmo with over 22 years of experience in the insurance and financial services, most recently as the VP of Claim Operations and Strategy at Jetty in addition to previous roles with Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Safeco, The Hartford and Travelers.
Last but certainly not least, Jacinta C. Mathis is bringing her growth marketing passion and savvy to her new role as our Vice President of Growth. Jacinta now strategically leads Wagmo’s initiatives to acquire and retain the most valuable customers, while building the most impactful pet brand every human will love and remember. Jacinta has over 15 years of experience leading marketing and strategic partnerships teams, most recently as the VP of Strategic Partnerships at KeyMe and Senior Director of Global Marketing at IAC. She is also the co-founder of Dipper, a tech-platform and a safe space for underrepresented professionals to share their workplace experiences.
When we set out to create Wagmo in 2017, our goal was to deliver innovative, tech-first solutions and product features to keep pets healthy, and pet parents' lives stress-free. Today, we’re focused on growing our list of meaningful partnerships to connect pet parents to more resources, and increasing our diverse team of pet-loving nerds who believe in guaranteeing comprehensive coverage and wellness for all pet owners regardless of age, breed, or preexisting conditions.
